Dermal Tops

Dermal tops are the decorative part of the piercing, as it is the piece that will be showing above the skin, so make sure you get one that you like the look of. Many people like to go with bright jewels or colours, but whatever your fancy, you’re sure to find it here.

Dermal Converters

Dermal converters are rods that fit into your dermal top, changing the size that is required to insert the piercing. For example, if you have a 1.2 mm anchor but a 1.6 mm top that you really love, a converter allows you to connect the two comfortably. It is always handy to have a couple of converters in case you can’t find the right size for a dermal you really want.

Dermal Anchors

The dermal anchor is placed underneath the skin with a little bit pushing out of the surface so that the dermal top can be inserted. It literally anchors the dermal to the skin, and is what is inserted when you get pierced.

Of all the piercings you can get, dermals are the most likely to be rejected by the body or to migrate, because they are so small and literally rest under your skin. There are ways to minimise this risk.

• Keep your band-aid on for a few days after getting the piercing.

• Use a salt spray solution to clean the area twice a day.

• Don’t apply soap to the piercing directly as this will just irritate it.

• Dab a little bit of diluted tea tree oil to prevent infections, but don’t overuse this. A small dab once a day or every couple of days is fine.

• Do not pick at any crusts or goo, as this is all part of a normal healing process.

• Do not change your dermal without the help of a professional piercer.
